Abstract:Magnetic hysteresis is a manifestation of non-equilibrium state of magnetic domain walls trapped in local energy minima. Using two types of experiments we show that, after application of a magnetic field to a ferromagnet, acoustic oscillations excited in the latter can “equilibrate” metastable magnetic domain structure by triggering the motion of domain walls into more stable configurations. Single crystals of archetypal Ni2MnGa magnetic shape memory alloy in the cubic phase were used in the experiments. The m… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
