Effect of Aging on Corrosion Behavior of Martensite Phase in Cu-Al-Ni Shape Memory Alloy

Abstract: Polarisation methods, and Open circuit potential measurements have been utilized to evaluate the impact of heat remediation on the corrosion characteristics of CuAlNi shape memory alloy in 3.5 percent NaCl solutions. CuAlNi alloy specimens were investigated in their as-sintered condition and following a thermal remediation processing that included annealing at 900 °C for 60 min associated with water quenching, and 200-degree centigrade for 30 hrs. and rapid cooling in iced water. The enhancement in polarisatio… Show more

“…The purpose of present investigation is study the effect of Thermo Mechanical Treatment performed at range ( 260,280 ,300 )°C with compression in special device manufactured and calibrated for this purpose to improve the corrosion resistance especially in Braine solution (NaCl,2H2O) at three domain of temperature ( 25,45 ,65)°C by Potentiondynamic Polarization test to calculate the corrosion rate based on the Icorr and Vcorr values. And we noted to the other studied the corrosion rate and corrosion resistance such as , Influence of aging on Corrosion behavior of martensite phase in Cu-Al-Ni SMA Dawood, etal [3] . The effect of iron addition on the corrosion resistance behavior of Cu-Al-Ni SMA -Raheem , etal [4].…”

“…There are certain drawbacks to the relatively less expensive Cu-based SMAs (Cu-Zn-Al, Cu-Al-Ni, and Cu-Al-Mn), which stated to be second only to Ni-Ti by SM qualities [10]. Additionally, they have a propensity to age naturally, which alters their shape memory behavior by increasing the temperature at which austenite and martensite transition occurs [11,12]. Since there are still gaps in the results to date and Cu-based SMAs remain the most appealing long-term replacement for Ni-Ti due to their comparably lower cost, research on these materials will continue to draw interest.…”
