Effect of Altitude Level on Surgical Outcomes of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy for Patients With Morbid Obesity: A Multicentre Prospective Study

Abstract: Background: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of altitude level on surgical outcomes of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) for patients with morbid obesity. Methods:At the normal altitude level, 808 patients underwent LSG, and 467 patients underwent LSG in high-altitude regions. The primary outcome was evaluated based on the postoperative morbidity rate. “…[1][2][3] Among the documented procedures, what can be clearly seen in the past 2 decades is the phenomenal growth of worldwide recognition and adaptation of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). [4][5][6] As a result, LSG has become a dominant bariatric surgery. The classic technique for LSG is the "lateral-to-medial approach", also called "greater curvature approach" with the easy-start feature.…”

“…Bariatric surgery has been stratified as the most effective treatment for obesity with or without metabolic syndrome 1–3. Among the documented procedures, what can be clearly seen in the past 2 decades is the phenomenal growth of worldwide recognition and adaptation of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) 4–6. As a result, LSG has become a dominant bariatric surgery.…”
