Effect of annealing, thickness ratio and bend angle on springback of AA6061-T6 with non-uniform thickness section

Abstract: Abstract. Non-uniform thickness section section is considered one of the most effective approaches to reduce automotive part weight. Reduction in term of mass and size result in less fuel consumption and greenhouse gases. Thickness is the most significant parameter to formability, therefore forming a section with non-uniform thickness becomes a great challenge. Improper process and incorrect decision may lead to severe defect and one of the main concerns is the springback. This study will focus on springback b… Show more

“…The Taguchi method is used to investigate the spring back characteristics of the AA6061-alloy strip with “nonuniform thickness.” The effects of thickness ratio, bend angle and alignment parameters are investigated. The results show that bend angle is the most important parameter regarding the thickness ratio and the specimen arrangement throughout the bending process (Adnan et al , 2017). Quadfasel et al (2017) used the spring back of high manganese twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steels in “U-profile” bending.…”

“…Extensive research has been carried out to study the behaviour of aluminium alloys, such as AA2xxx [6][7][8] , AA5xxx [9][10][11] and AA6xxx [12][13][14] series. Springback prediction is of great importance in the design of panel components and the forming processes used to produce them from aluminium alloys, and provides a feasible way of reducing trials and errors during manufacturing.…”
