The 4-m International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) will soon become operational at the newly developed Devasthal observatory near Nainital (Uttarakhand, India). Coupled with a 4k × 4k pixels CCD detector and TDI optical corrector, it will reach approximately 22.8, 22.3 and 21.4 magnitude in the g ′ , r ′ and i ′ spectral bands, respectively in a single scan. The limiting magnitudes can be further improved by co-adding the consecutive night images in particular filters. The uniqueness to observe the same sky region by looking towards the zenith direction every night, makes the ILMT a unique instrument to detect new supernovae (SNe) by applying the image subtraction technique. High cadence (∼ 24 hours) observations will help to construct dense sampling multi-band SNe light curves. We discuss the importance of the ILMT facility in the context of SNe studies. Considering the various plausible cosmological parameters and observational constraints, we perform detailed calculations of the expected SNe rate that can be detected with the ILMT in different spectral bands.

In this study, aluminium‐silicon7‐magnesium alloy was reinforced with carbide ceramics (silicon carbide and boron carbide) and coke microparticles. The composite samples (S1, S2, and S3) with 4 %, 8 %, and 12 % by weight of silicon carbide and boron carbide microparticles and 8 % by weight of coke micro particles respectively, were prepared through the ultrasonic assisted melt‐stir casting route. It was observed from the literature that only a few research works reported the cumulative effect of adding these micro‐particulate reinforcements within aluminium‐silicon7‐magnesium alloy. The microstructural evaluation revealed uniform dispersion of particulate reinforcements. Area energy dispersive x‐ray spectroscopy scan results proved the presence of the reinforcement particles as heterogeneous phases at distinct zones. The samples undergone tensile tests failed under the brittle fracture mode. The ultimate tensile strength of the composites improved by about 27.4 %, the % elongation improved by about 6.8 %, and Vickers microhardness dropped 1.9 % to the maximum. Dimples were observed in the fracture morphology analysis and it was mainly due to the mixed ductility of the sample S2. An abrasive wear mechanism was observed in the worn‐out sample S2. The wear rate decreased significantly with an increase in weight fraction of the reinforcements.

Fiber-reinforced polymer and metal laminated structures are widely used in aerospace and military fields because of their excellent mechanical and physical properties. However, the materials are prone to processing defects such as burring and furry during processing. In this paper, based on the mechanism of vibration cutting, the mixed-frequency vibration tool holder (MFVT) with low-frequency and ultrasonic combined vibration is designed. The low-frequency vibration module and ultrasonic vibration module of the tool holder are designed theoretically and studied experimentally. The vibration surface model and the dynamic equation of the low-frequency vibration module are established, which lays a theoretical foundation for the design of the low-frequency vibration module. A dynamic simulation model for error analysis is established, and the effects of surface profile error, cage clearance error and spline coupling clearance error on low-frequency vibration motion curve are studied. Among them, the contour error has the greatest influence on the motion curve. Analyzing the thermal energy generation mechanism of an ultrasonic vibrator through the vibration self-heating simulation model. The impact of temperature on the operational performance of an ultrasonic vibrator was analyzed through experiments. The experimental results indicate that both the amplitude and resonant frequency of the ultrasonic vibrator decrease with the increase in temperature.
