Effect of carbon fibers (length, dosage) on the Marshall and volumetric properties of HMA mixtures

Nadheer Albayati,
Mohammed Qader Ismael

Abstract: This study investigates the effect of carbon fibers when added to HMA containing recycled concrete aggregate on Marshall properties. It is included to identify the optimum asphalt contents according to the Marshall design method for mixtures containing 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% coarse recycled concrete replaced with coarse virgin aggregate. Two lengths of 10 and 20 mm of carbon fibers had been added with three percentages of 0.15, 0.25, and 0.35% to the total weight of the mixture. The results showed all mixtur… Show more

“…The laboratory results meet the volumetric and design mix standards for Washington State. Al-Bayati & Ismael [13] examine the impact of carbon fibers on the Marshall properties of HMA containing RCA. Carbon fibers with lengths of 10 and 20 mm were added at three proportions of 0.15, 0.25, and 0.35% of the total weight of the mixture.…”

“…The demolition and reconstruction of old facilities lead to an increase in construction waste, which accumulates in large quantities and must be discarded in a large landfill since it can be recycled and disposed of [13], [14]. It is regarded as one of the most essential factors that are hazardous to environmental life [15], [16]. Construction waste incorporates a variety of components, but Portland cement concrete pieces are among the most important elements [17].…”
