“…The oxygen content of the specimens decreased in the order WEC (49.849%) > MX/WEC (31.124%) > PMPF/WEC (29.805%) > RMPF/WEC (23.584%) > VMPF/WEC (7.360%), which highlights the outstanding corrosion resistance of VMPF/WEC. The presence of Cl – ions promoted the corrosion reaction, therefore accelerating the dissolution of the substrate. , The steel protected by VMPF/WEC possessed a low chlorine content (0.043%), thereby representing an 88.22% reduction compared with the steel protected by WEC (0.365%). This decrease was attributed to the labyrinth effect resulting from parallel-arranged MPF and the repulsion of chloride ions of PDDA. , In summary, the parallel-arranged MPF in WEC effectively inhibited the penetration of corrosive media (H 2 O, Cl – ), which led to exceptional corrosion resistance of the nanocomposite coating.…”

“…However, when the chloride concentration surpasses D2, the weight loss rate begins to rise again, which may be attributed to the protective effect of the rust layer. Previous studies [14][15][16] have indicated the presence of a critical concentration of chloride ions. Once the chloride ion concentration reaches a certain level, it causes a shift in the weight loss rate.…”

“…Once the primary cell is formed, the dissolved chloride forms in the hole, and the passive film formed on the metal surface cannot be exchanged. As a result, the concentration of chloride in the hole is increasing, the acidity is gradually enhanced, and the pitting holes are deepening, eventually forming multiple small and deep pitting holes [17] . H 2 S can accelerate the anodic dissolution of 316L stainless steel, destroy the passive film, and cause pitting corrosion.…”
