Effect of chlormequat and alar on some biochemical constituents in tomato plants and fruits

Abstract: The field experiment was conducted to study the effect of various levels of chlormequat (CCC) and alar on the biochemical changes in tomato plants and fruits at different stages of growth. This experiment included spraying with chlormequat and alar separately in two equal doses (250, 500 and 1000 ppm CCC or alar 25 and 40 days after transplanting). The different levels of chlormequat decreased the accumulation of dry matter in tomato plants, but alar increased it. Chlorophyll a, b, total chlorophyll and carote… Show more

“…90 Field tomato plants were sprayed twice (25 and 40 days after transplanting) with either CCC (chlormequat) or alar (succinic acid 2,2-dimethyl hydrazide) in 250, 500 or 1000 mg kg −1 solutions. 91 In comparison with the control, the treatment with 500 mg kg −1 CCC or alar increased the tomato leaf content (dm basis) in chlorophyll a and b 15, 30 and 45 days later and also increased the tomato leaf content in carotenoid of +10% after 15 days, +9% after 30 days and 14% after 45 days. Most of the levels of CCC and, mainly, alar tested tended to increase the total soluble solids present in the fruit.…”
