Effect of Cotton Fiber Bundle Break Elongation and Other Fiber Properties on the Properties of a Coarse and a Medium Singles Yarn

Abstract: Forty-three cottons, varying extensively in fiber properties, were used to show the relationship between cotton fiber properties, particularly fiber bundle break elongation, and the properties of a coarse and medium yarn. In addition, there are presented some practical aspects of a speculative nature based on the results. The cottons were processed into a series of yarns of varying twists. Fiber break elongation, along with five other fiber properties (length, fineness, strength, length variability, and maturi… Show more

“…Both fiber and bundle groups included cottons with wide ranges in their physical properties. Conventional fiber measurements such as length, maturity, and Micronaire fineness of the ginned cottons as well as the tensile properties of 40 (15/1) and 20 (30/1) tex yarns were available from another investigation [4].…”

“…According to Majumdar and Majumdar the impact of fiber length on yarn breaking elongation is listed well behind fiber elongation, length Uniformity index, yellowness, yarn count, reflectance, fiber strength and micronaire. While the effect of different fiber parameters and machine factors on yarn breaking elongation keep on varying from author to author [12][13][14], it is worthy noting that previous researchers [1,9,10,[12][13][14] have used at most eight inputs for the reported yarn breaking elongation prediction models. This could have limited the study of the factors affecting yarn breaking elongation.…”
