Effect of Die Modification to Geometrical Defect of Cold Forged AUV Propeller Blade

Abstract: Accuracy and characteristics of the die and punch plays a significant role in the forming process. The perfectness of the die and punch will not guarantee that the part form as desired. Therefore, the die or punch needs to be modified. In practice, the modifications will be carried by trial and error based on the experience of the fabricator and the amount or removed section is unknown. In this study, the contribution of die modification to the geometric defect will be quantified by comparing the blade profile… Show more

“…Table 1 shows the mechanical properties of Al-Cu-Mg-Mn alloy. The material parameters and deformation curve of Al-Cu-Mg-Mn alloy are included in the material model [25]. The coefficient of friction when pressing is 0.1, and the displacement of the punch is 25 mm.…”

“…quality of the forged part and less number of steps. As a result, by incorporating the cold forging process, blade can be formed in five steps [13]. Firstly the Aluminium alloy AA6061 sheet of 3mm thickness cut into a preform shape, then the preform forged to form a blade having hydrodynamic profile.…”

“…Cold upsetting is commonly used in validating developed simulation models [8,9]. In this paper, the model developed for cold embossing a pinhead, which was discussed in Abdullah et al [10] and Abdullah et al [11], will be validated. The pinhead embossing process is illustrated in Fig.…”
