“…It is a sulfated polysaccharide, which can be isolated from various species of brown algae and brown seaweed, such as Undaria pinnatifida , Laminaria angustata , Fucus vesiculosus , and Fucus evanescens . Fucoidan shows a variety of biological activities, including anti‐inflammatory, anticoagulant, antioxidant, antiviral, antiapoptotic, and antiproliferative effects . With regard to cancer therapy, some reports indicate that fucoidan exerts an antitumor activity on several cancer types, such as lung, breast, and colon cancers .…”

“…[8][9][10][11] Fucoidan shows a variety of biological activities, including antiinflammatory, anticoagulant, antioxidant, antiviral, antiapoptotic, and antiproliferative effects. [12][13][14][15][16][17] With regard to cancer therapy, some reports indicate that fucoidan exerts an antitumor activity on several cancer types, such as lung, breast, and colon cancers. [18][19][20] Unlike medications, fucoidan is a food-grade material, thus, intolerable side effects are excluded.…”

“…Following overnight chilling of the carcasses at 4°C, the Longissimus thoracis (LT) muscle was excised from twelve randomly selected pigs per treatment (2 males and 2 females from 3 pens), and subdivided into eight boneless pork steaks per pig (approximately 1.5 cm in thickness). Five steaks were placed in vacuum pack pouches (200 × 300 mm, McDonnells Ltd, Dublin, Ireland) and flushed with 80% O 2 : 20% CO 2 (modified atmosphere packs, MAP technology) as described by Rajauria, Draper, McDonnell, and O'Doherty () using a single chamber vacuum‐sealing unit (Webomatic vacuum packaging system, C10 H with a Km100‐3M gas mixer, Germany) for colour analysis. The LT steaks in MAP were stored for up to 14 days at 4°C for colour analysis.…”

“…The surface colour of the LT steaks was measured using a colorimeter (CR‐400 handheld Chroma metre, Konica Minolta, Co, Oska, Japan) as described by Rajauria et al. (). Briefly the Chroma metre was calibrated on the CIE LAB colour system using a CR‐A43 calibration plate (Dc: L * = 97.79, a * = −0.11, b * = 2.69).…”

“…This is due to multiple benefits (Makkar et al 2016), such as an increase in nutrient digestibility as well as improvements in the intestinal physiology and immunity of animals (Bahar et al 2012, Jha andBerrocoso 2016). Seaweed are rich in non-digestible polysaccharides such as laminarin, fucoidan and alginic acid (Zvyagintseva et al 2003, Rajauria et al 2016, which are a possible source of soluble fibers that can provide a dietetic resource to improve intestinal health and potentially reduce intestinal pathogens (Gardiner et al 2008). These natural products can be used in nursery and fattening diets because they are a rich source of carbohydrates.…”
