Ammonia, which occurs as a natural result of aquaculture in production facilities, has a negative effect on the quality of aquaculture water and aquatic organisms. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of zeolite in fish feed and in water, which has the ability to adsorb ammonium, on ammonia removal. In the study, 12 different experimental groups were organized by creating 0, 2, and 10% ratios for fish feed (G1-G3), groups that zeolite only in water (G4, G5), and combinations (zeolite and/or in water/in feed) of 0, 7, and 20 g/L amounts to water (G6-G12). When NH3 and TAN data of G1-G3 were examined, it was determined that although there was no statistical difference, it decreased proportionally with the increase in the amount of zeolite in the feed. The difference between water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, NH3 and TAN values in G4 and G5 groups was found to be insignificant. The dissolved oxygen, pH, NH3 and TAN values between the groups (G6-G12) were statistically different. As a result, it was determined that 10% addition of zeolite into the feed decreased the TAN values by 37%, and the addition of 10% into the feed and 20 g/L into the water decreased the TAN values by 45%. When the results are evaluated from another point of view, considering the economy and ease of use, it is concluded that 2% zeolite in feed and/or 7 g/L in water can be recommended for aquatic species with high tolerance to ammonia values.

The present study was aimed to evaluate the effect of kaolin on copper sulfate toxicity and on some hematological and biochemical performance in Cyprinus carpio L. 240 common carp ranged between 85-95g in weight. A total of 120 fish were used to determine the median lethal concentration LC50 of copper sulfate and 120 fish and randomly distributed into six treatments (two replications for each treatment). The LC50 of copper sulfate was 1.82 mg/l for 48h exposure, then added 0.91mg/l of copper sulfate to all treatment groups except control negative .The experimental treatments included adding kaolin: Control negative (without copper sulfate or kaolin); Control positive 0.91mg/l copper sulfate without kaolin.T1, T2, T3 and T4 kaolin were added in the water at levels of 2, 4 , 6 and 8 g/l respectively. Results showed that the values of RBCs count were ranged 1.16 x106 - 1.77x106 cell /mm³ in cont.+ve and T3 respectively. WBCs count were ranged 8.40×10³ in cont.+ve to 13.14×10³ cell/mm³ in T3.The lowest Hb content found in cont.+ve reached 8.35 g/dl, while the highest content found in control-ve attained 12.87g/dl. PCV ranged from 21.75 to 35.60% in cont.+ve and T3 respectively. Results of total protein ranged between 6.6 - 18.19 g/dl in T4 and cont.-ve respectively, while albumin ranged from 1.31 to 1.53 g/dl in cont.+ve and cont.-ve respectively. Globulin level recorded the lowest value in T4 which was 5.15g/dl whereas the highest level in cont.-ve which was 16.67 g/dl. In conclusion, this investigation indicated that kaolin has reduced the toxicity effects of copper sulfate in common carp and the best level can be use was 6g/l (T3).

This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of silver zeolite (SZ) on hematological parameters and survival rate in common carp, Cyprinus carpio infected with Saprolegnia spp. A total of 120 fish (weight 100 g) were divided into six treated groups in duplicate (10 fish/tank) as follows: T1, T2, T3 and T4 that infected with Saprolegnia spp. (2×104 zoospore/ml) and treated with SZ at (100,200 and 300 mg/l) while T4 infected with Saprolegnia spp. and treated with copper sulfate )5g/100 L(; C+ group, fish were infected with Saprolegnia without treatment and C- served as control negative group. Following 14 days from infection with Saprolegnia spp. and treatment with SZ, considerable changes were observed in blood indices. In pre-treatment, results showed a significant increased (P≤0.05) in WBC count in all infected fish (C+, T1, T2,T3 and T4) in comparison to C- group. RBC, Hb content and PCV% registered a significantly decreased (P≤0.05) in all infected fish (C+,T1, T2,T3 and T4) relative to the control group (C-). Post treatment, WBC registered significantly decreased in treated groups (T1,T2,T3 and T4) compared to C+ in WBC count. The best survival was recorded in T3 (85%) followed by T2 and T1 (65%, and 60%) respectively. In conclusion Silver zeolite seems to be a valuable disinfectant agent against Saprolegnia spp.; at the dose of 300 mg/l.
