“…However, the inert structure and low surface energy of PAEKs are still challenging to achieve sufficient bond strength with veneer materials [8,11]. Various micromechanical and chemical surface treatment procedures have been tested on PAEKs to alter the surface characteristics for more durable and better bonding, including sandblasting(Sb) with aluminium oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) [12], tribochemical silica coating (Tbc) with silica (SiO x ) modified Al 2 O 3 [3], etching with sulfuric acid (Sa) or its mixture with hydrogen peroxide (Piranha solution) [9,13], plasma application [14,15], and laser applications [16]. The etching with Sa solution, especially in the concentration of 98%, was the most effective surface treatment technique on PEEK polymers [8,11,13,17], and favourable bonding results have also been declared for Sb and Tbc techniques on both PEEK and PEKK polymers [3,16].…”
