Effect of Direct-Current Magnetic Field on the Rate of Catalytic Hydrogenation and Oxidation in the Presence of Colloidal Palladium in situ

Abstract: Preliminary exposure of a perchlorate solution of palladium(II) tetraaqua complex to a dc magnetic field (0.1! 0.95 T) affects the rate of a series of hydrogenation and oxidation reactions catalyzed by this species.

“…When benzoin was used instead of benzil comparable yield was obtained with longer reaction time ( Table 4, entries 1 and 2). 44,45 In the case of sterically demanding groups of the aryl aldehydes yields of the corresponding products were acceptable ( 46 It was observed that there is a slight decrease in the product yield as the carbon length chain was increased in the case of the alkyl aldehydes (Table 4, entries [25][26][27]. Various electron donating and withdrawing groups at the orto, meta, and para-position of the aryl aldehydes were used and afforded high yields ( Table 4).…”

“…[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] It is known that magnetic materials possess easy magnetic axes. 20 According to previous researches, the magnetic field can be influence not only the synthesis of magnetic materials but also on the organic reactions, [21][22][23][24][25][26][27] but these researches mainly focused on the synthesis of magnetic materials under EMF and the nonmagnetic materials by this strategies. Dimensional orientation can be tuned magnetic properties of the materials.…”

“…As a result of MF influence, the ferromagnetic regions with modified spin have appeared in ferromagnetic materials. The effect of various types of MF on physicochemical properties of liquids and solids was reported [25,26]. Also, the effect of an MF is the most pronounced in heterogeneous systems [27].…”

“…Researchers do not rule out a priori the possibility of affecting the rate and pathway of a chemical reaction by applying an MF. It is suggested that the MF effect may find applications as a means to control a chemical reaction [26].…”

“…Catalytic reactions that take place in the presence of a paramagnetic particle, which acts in the role of a spin catalyst, are the reactions of the third level. The influence of the magnetic field on a catalytic hydration and oxidation rate in the presence of the colloidal palladium is demonstrated in [5]. Nowadays, the quantity of the chemical and biological reactions affected by the magnetic field is growing.…”
