Effect of DMPA Content on Colloidal Stability of Jatropha Oil-based waterborne Polyurethane Dispersion

Abstract: Driven by the increase of oil price in the market as well as environmental concerns by the society, a renewable raw material such as vegetable oil becomes the alternative to produce bio-based polyol to replace non-renewable polyols in polyurethane production. The recent development of aqueous polyurethane dispersion proves that environmentally waterborne PUD offers an efficient alternative to the solvent-borne PUD for the application in ink, adhesives, and coatings. In this study, the jatropha oil has been suc… Show more

“…In the meantime, a doublet band associated with the epoxy group (C-O-C) in the EJO was observed at 842 and 819 cm −1 , indicating that the Jatropha oil was successfully converted to epoxidized Jatropha oil. During the oxirane ring-opening, the doublet bands of the epoxy group disappeared and new absorption bands at 3425 cm −1 , corresponding to the stretching vibration of the OH group, were formed, indicating that JOL was produced [ 5 , 26 ]. No absorption band of the OH group vibration was found in the WBPU spectra, indicating that all isocyanate was completely reacted to WBPU production by the OH group of JOL, 1,6 HDO, and DMPA [ 22 ].…”

“…Furthermore, the absolute ζ potential values of samples stored at different temperatures were higher than 30 mV, indicating the excellent physical stability of these WPU-ACT emulsions. 46,47 ACT is a good alternative to conventional insecticides, displaying no resistance problems due to its chemical complexity and nontoxic nature to mammals, beneficial arthropods, and warm-blooded vertebrates. 48 Unfortunately, ACT has a rapid biodegradability, especially in regard to photothermal factors that would accelerate its decomposition, 17,49,50 which greatly limits its application ranges in the agricultural field.…”
