Effect of Doum Fruit (Hyphaene Thebaica) Extract on Some Biochemical Parameters, Enzyme Activities and Histopathological Changes of Pancreas in Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rats

Abstract: Medicinal plants have been used in the treatment of some diseases like diabetes. One of them is doum fruit extract. The study was conducted to evaluate effect of doum fruit extract on some biochemical parameters, including enzyme activities and histopathological changes of pancreas in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Animals were allocated into five groups of rats, two groups, several as control (one normal and one diabetic rats) and the other three groups were induced diabetic with doum extract (0.5, 1 and 2 g/… Show more

“…Moreover, the presence of flavonoids and phenols in doum extract may be responsible for the improvement of blood glucose levels, blood liver enzymes, and lipid profiles (blood triglycerides, total fats, and cholesterol) (Abd-Fatteh & Hassan, 2020). Food products fortified with doum can be beneficial for people who suffer from obesity and hyperlipidemia (Shehata, 2020).…”

“…Doum fruit ( Hyphaene thebaica ) reduces the serum's total cholesterol, total glyceride, and LDL as well as increases the HDL level due to its content of phytochemical compounds, which shows good antioxidant activity and scavenges free radicals (Abdullahi et al., 2022 ).
