Effect of Duration of Abstinence on Maturity of Human Spermatozoa Nucleus

Abstract: Human sperm are a heterogeneous population, particularly with respect to their morphology, motility, and degree of nuclear maturity. The characteristics of human sperm and the degree of nuclear condensation with variable sexual abstinence times (long, 7 days; short, 12 h) have been studied. Long abstinence led to an increase in the number of sperm and a decrease in their motility, but their morphology remained unchanged. The DNA-protein complex demonstrated by ethidium bromide uptake was unchanged, but there w… Show more

“…Again, the literature holds conflicting reports. Most demonstrate no changes in motility with abstention times of 4-5 days (Heuchtel et al, 1256(Heuchtel et al, 1981Jouannet et al, 1981;Tyler et al, 1982a) but there are suggestions (from subjective evaluation) of both increased motility (weak correlation: Poland et al, 1985) and decreased motility (MacLeod and Gold, 1952a,b;Le Lannou et al, 1986). Many of these discrepancies may relate to the provision of only one ejaculate and chance fluctuations in measurements of subjective parameters.…”

“…In addition, there is general agreement that the secretory activities of the epididymis and prostate (Elzanaty et al. , 2005), semen volume and sperm concentration (LeLannou et al. , 1986; Blackwell & Zaneveld, 1992; Pellestor et al.…”

“…Comparing single and married men, the former has higher levels of testosterone than later counterparts; and those who reported being in happy and conflict-free marriages possess reduced male hormone levels in relation to their counterparts in rocky unions (58). Higher testosterone levels exist among childless fathers compared to the married men who have children (59). Medical experts and researchers have found out that since men with infertility problems produce less sperm per ejaculation, they need to ejaculate 14 more to match the ejaculation of a normal healthy person (60).…”
