Effect of felodipine with irbesartan or metoprolol on sexual function and oxidative stress in women with essential hypertension

Abstract: These results suggested that the felodipine-irbesartan combination regimen improved sexual function in hypertensive women, whereas felodipine-metoprolol regiment did not. The reason for the different influence of these two combination therapy on female sexual function might be their different impacts on oxidative stress and hormone levels.

“…This distinction may also explain the lack of a difference between these two combination therapies on some items of the IIEF and the prevalence of ED. Similar results were observed in another study on female hypertensive patients in which felodipine-metoprolol had no influence on the total score of the female sexual function index [33]. …”

“…83,84 Levels of aldehydes, such as MDA-LDL and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE), have been proposed as a biological signature of clinical in vivo LDL oxidation. [85][86][87][88][89] Mutlu-Turkoglu et al 87 reported that plasma MDA levels were increased in elderly subjects compared with those in young subjects. Lovell et al 89 have shown that ventricular fluid levels of 4-HNE are significantly higher in patients with Alzheimer's disease, an agerelated disease, than in control subjects.…”

“…Больным АГ можно безопасно назначать ингибиторы фосфодиэстеразы-5, даже тем из них, которые получают несколько антигипертензивных препаратов (за исключением альфа-блокаторов и нитратов) [594], причем это может улучшить при-верженность антигипертензивной терапии [595]. Исследования по влиянию АГ и антигипертензивной терапии на половую функцию женщин находятся в самом начале и должны всячески поощряться [596].…”
