Effect of Foliar Fertigation of Chitosan Nanoparticles on Cadmium Accumulation and Toxicity in Solanum lycopersicum

Abstract: Cadmium (Cd) stress is increasing at a high pace and is polluting the agricultural land. As a result, it affects animals and the human population via entering into the food chain. The aim of this work is to evaluate the possibility of amelioration of Cd stress through chitosan nanoparticles (CTS-NPs). After 15 days of sowing (DAS), Solanum lycopersicum seedlings were transplanted into maintained pots (20 in number). Cadmium (0.8 mM) was providing in the soil as CdCl2.2.5H2O at the time of transplanting; howeve… Show more

“…The application of CH-NPs enhances the growth of banana plants, as evidenced in this study by the increase in the fresh and dry weights. Once CH-NPs enter the leaf tissue, they can move and be transported to reach the centers of vital processes in the plant cell and become more effective in stimulating the plant's resistance to stress [44][45][46][47].…”

“…Si supplementation is considered to inhibit salinity in plants, so Si-NPs have been used to improve salinity tolerance in plants [ 124 ]. Moreover, for regulated release, NPK fertilizers and Si-NPs should be carried inside the core of controlled-release fertilizers, which can be coated with chitosan as the first semipermeable coating and sodium alginate and kaolin as the outermost superabsorbent coating [ 125 ]. These artificial beds could slowly disperse nutrients, allowing plants to hold enormous amounts of water, manage salinity and thrive in drought circumstances [ 124 ].…”

“…Studies reveals that NPs have ability to mitigate the stress caused by trace metal and enhanced the growth of the plants [24,25]. Despite several studies of NPs with plants, the mechanism of ZnONPs and SA in the alleviation of oxidative stress induced by As in rice plant is not clearly developed.…”
