In the context of big data, pricing discrimination in global tourism expands the potential for reputational harm due to readily available information influencing tourists’ decision-making processes. This phenomenon also impacts the selection tactics of market entities, raising concerns about shared market value loss. By applying the value co-creation theory, wherein consumers and businesses collaborate to generate value, understanding the dynamics between businesses and tourists, as well as the motivations behind price discrimination, becomes more accessible. Furthermore, this study explores price discrimination behavior in the tourism market through the lens of value co-creation, employing a combination of prospect theory and mental accounting theory (PT-MA). Through the development of an evolutionary game model encompassing tourists, tourism enterprises, and the government, strategic decisions made by these stakeholders are analyzed. Besides, simulation and the in-depth examination of the model’s evolution using Matlab software reveal several key findings: (1) tourists tend to opt for compromise strategies due to their aversion to transactional costs associated with complaints; (2) reputational loss and sensitivity to loss aversion are inversely related to the likelihood of enterprises engaging in price discrimination; and (3) proactive and effective regulatory measures by the government prove successful in curtailing price discrimination in the tourism market, whereas fine policies demonstrate less efficacy. This study contributes to establishing a theoretical framework for selecting strategies aimed at achieving value co-creation in tourism.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, various tourism crisis events have negatively impacted the global tourism industry. This study proposes a research model grounded in the Stimulus–Organism–Response theory to explore how external stimuli influence individuals and help identify factors influencing elderly individuals’ willingness to participate in forest-based health tourism during and after tourism crisis events, considering the global aging trend. From 20 December 2023 to 15 January 2024, we collected 429 valid questionnaires from Chinese older adult participants engaged in forest-based health tourism in Guizhou Province. Structural equation modelling (SEM) and bootstrapping techniques were employed to analyze data. The results indicate that tourism crisis events, primarily in the form of geological disasters, are significant antecedent variables influencing the willingness of Chinese older adults to engage in forest-based health tourism. Furthermore, destination image and perceived value serve as individual mediators and function as chained mediators. The results enhance our understanding of the complex relationship between tourism crisis events and the willingness of older Chinese adults to travel while also revealing deeper underlying mechanisms.

The popularity of medical tourism has matured substantially over the last few decades due to escalating medical costs, advancements in medical technology, and reduced travel costs. The significance of medical marketing has thus become vital for hospitals to lure domestic and global patients, designate their brand, and boost awareness about life-saving treatments delivered by distinctive hospitals across the globe. Even though medical tourism has acquired growing interest, prior research has been limited in scope, particularly in studying the industry's marketing aspects. Because of this, comprehending the target market is vital. To address this need, this chapter aims to answer two research questions: RQ1, What key themes, study characteristics, study contexts, and methodologies are investigated in medical tourism marketing research studies?; RQ2, What future research avenues in medical tourism marketing exist for scholars across diverse fields? This chapter thoroughly synthesizes existing medical tourism marketing literature and pinpoints future research opportunities.
