Effect of gamma radiation on the structural, thermal and optical properties of PMMA/Sn0.75Fe0.25S2 nanocomposite

Abstract: Nanocomposite films of polymethylmethacrylate PMMA with Sn0.75Fe0.25S2 nanoparticles (NPs) were fabricated by both thermolysis and casting techniques. Changes in PMMA/Sn0.75Fe0.25S2 nanocomposite (NCP) due to gamma irradiation have been measured. XRD results indicate that the gamma doses of 10–80 kGy cause intermolecular crosslinking that reduces the ordered portion in the NPs. Bonding between the NPs and the host PMMA was confirmed by FTIR. TGA results indicate an enhancement in thermal stability in the NCP f… Show more

“…The author computed the color factors using the transmission records in the wavelength range from 370 to780 nm (Figure 5). The tristimulus values were measured and presented in Figure (6) versus  dose. Their values decreased on raising the  dose up to 50 kGy.…”

“…The transesterification reaction was postulated to be the greatest significant one that arises among PC and Ps, resulting in a novel construction of copolymers with novel IR function groups [4,5]. These copolymers possess the brilliant effect durability, great thermal and mechanical characters, and the excellent dimensional stability of both PC and Ps [6].…”

“…The polymer characteristics are altered due to the breakdown of the polymeric chains caused by plasma irradiation, and the creation of biochemically active free radicals that serve to generate novel covalent bonds resulting in chains crosslinks [6]. Additionally, the  irradiation causes lattice flaws, changing the characteristics of the polymer [7].…”
