Effect of glucose fouling on the dissolved gases permeation through maximum‐crystallized poly(lactic acid) films

Abstract: In this study, we investigated the effect of fouling on the dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide permeation in water through maximum-crystallized poly(lactic acid) (PLA) films by using proton nuclear magnetic resonance, attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, contact angle, water content ratio, and dissolved gas permeation. Fouling means the adhesion of contents on a container's internal surface, where content adhes… Show more

“…As shown in Figure for the ATR‐FTIR spectra, the pristine BOZ shows absorption peaks at approximately 1600, 1496, and 947 cm −1 , which are assigned to the characteristic stretching vibration of C=C for benzene ring, stretching vibration of trisubstituted benzene ring and out‐of‐plane bending vibration of C‐H, respectively . The pristine PLA presents absorption peak at 1751 cm −1 , which belongs to the characteristic stretching vibration of C=O . With increasing the BOZ content, the integrated characteristic absorption intensities of BOZ increase gradually.…”

“…26 The pristine PLA presents absorption peak at 1751 cm −1 , which belongs to the characteristic stretching vibration of C=O. 28,29 With increasing the BOZ content, the integrated characteristic absorption intensities of BOZ increase gradually. Moreover, the integrated characteristic absorption intensity of PLA decreases gradually, which is mostly due to the diluting effect of added BOZ.…”

“…7,8 The permeation properties of oxygen through the PLA/ MMT composite films in the water phase were determined by the isobaric pressure method using an electrode sensor (Tsukubarikaseiki, Co., Ibaraki, Japan) at 25 ± 1, 30 ± 1, 35 ± 1, and 40 ± 1 °C, according to the experimental method described in the literature. 9 The supply side was filled with ultrapure water and saturated with oxygen gas, and then, the permeation side was filled with 0.5 N KCl solution. The electrode sensor detected a steady current, indicating the concentration of oxygen on the permeation side.…”
