Effect of harvest times on the yield and seed quality of French bean

Abstract: . This might be due to more food reserve and dry matter accumulation on the seed at later harvest. However, seeds harvested in 80 and 85 DAE were also found good for seed yield and seed quality.

“…The defective seed maturation leads to rapid loss of viability upon storage as has been shown for leafy cotyledon1 ( lec1 ) and abscisic acid intensitive3 ( abi3 ) mutants [5759]. Seed maturity, viability and storability are correlated with each other [60]. The oil content and fatty acid composition plays an essential role in the viability of soybean seed during storage conditions.…”

“…In crop species that lack a distinct non-shattering system, a number of agronomic and physiological interventions were tested and practiced for reducing seed shattering. In cultivated crops, the adjustment of harvest time based on seed moisture content and the development of abscission zone in reproductive parts is a primary approach to reduce grain yield loss (Silberstein et al, 2010;Shaheb et al, 2015;Xangsayasane et al, 2019). In several species such as Festulolium, adhesive preparations or film forming agents applied at the milk-ripe stage when seed moisture content is not less than 60-65% significantly reduced seed shattering (Obraztsov et al, 2018).…”

“…Optimum harvesting period at seed matured helps to obtain better seed quality and harvesting stage influenced the quality of seed which related to germination, vigor, viability and storability. Storability of seeds was a major genetically character and is influenced by pre-storage history of seed, seed maturation and environmental actors during pre/post-harvest stages (Shaheb et al, 2015). Early harvested seeds would be low seed quality caused by immature and poorly developed and poor storage compared to seed harvest at physiological maturity (Khatun et al, 2009).…”
