Effect of Heat Treatment on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Cemented Carbide and Carbon Steel Brazed Joints

Abstract: Cemented carbides are joined with steel to be used as a cutting tool. Brazing is one of a method joinning metals that has the potential to combine different types of materials such as cemented carbide and steel. This study aimed to investigate the effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and the distribution of the hardness value brazed joint between cemented carbide and carbon steel. The heat treatment was carried out at a temperature of 700oC, 725oC, and 750oC for 30 minutes. The joint area is observed… Show more

“…The average shear strength of brazed joints increases to 200 MPa at 1210 0 C for 7.5 minutes and decreases with increasing temperature and holding time [2]. Winardi (2019) conducted research on the effect of heat treatment on the physical and mechanical properties of the connection between brazed cemented carbide and carbon steel or carbon steel. The materials used are cemented carbide with a size of 25 mm x 15mmx8.5mm, low carbon steel SS400, and a filler metal alloy of 40Ag30.5Cu29.5Zn.…”

“…The highest hardness value was 131.88 VHN at a temperature of 750 oC. The experiment without heat treatment had the lowest hardness value of 112.73 VHN [4]. Mousavi et al (2012) conducted research on the wetting, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the union of cemented carbide with brazed CK35 steel using different filler metals, namely L-Ag40Cd and L-Ag34Cd.…”
