“…As information was not collected with regard to the possible comorbidities present in all patients with positive or negative results, it cannot be demonstrated from these data whether comorbidity or drug treatment alone is a risk factor for ITR or that this observation was merely coincident with other factors, such as the age of the patients and sample transport conditions. However, the published evidence on T-SPOT TM .TB [9,12,14,[20][21][22] supports the conclusion that morbidity and drug treatment are not a significant cause of indeterminate results.…”

“…These tests with positive and nil internal controls are more specific than TST in diagnosing TB infection [3][4][5] and equally or more sensitive in patients with immune deficiencies. Nevertheless, indeterminate results have been reported for both tests with a frequency of 0-5.4% for the T-SPOT TM .TB test [6][7][8][9][10][11] and ,40% for the QuantiFERON1-TB Gold test [12][13][14][15][16][17]. Their occurrence seems to be associated with immunosuppression [10,18] and very young or very old age (patients aged ,5 or .80 yrs).…”

“…Of these tests, the QFT-TB was first used commercially in Japan in April 2005 for the diagnosis of TB infection. Although there have been several reports investigating whether QFT-TB test and T-SPOT.TB test would be useful in immunocompromised patients [9][10][11], there has been only one report investigating the usefulness of the new test separately in individual important underlying disease [11]. Therefore, the present authors prospectively report on the results of an analysis in which the QFT-TB test was routinely performed on many consecutive immunocompromised patients separated according to individual underlying disease in several community hospitals.…”

“…Antenatal HIV prevalence is reported to be 25% of the total population wherein almost 40% have the risk of developing active TB. 32 Furthermore, 76% of TB cases are also HIV positive. 32 The team carried out a randomized controlled trial of antiretroviral therapy (ART) alone and isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) combined with ART (cART) for prevention of HIV-associated TB.…”

“…32 Furthermore, 76% of TB cases are also HIV positive. 32 The team carried out a randomized controlled trial of antiretroviral therapy (ART) alone and isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) combined with ART (cART) for prevention of HIV-associated TB. The results indicated that isoniazid added to the anti-viral therapy reduces the risk of TB by 35% as observed after a year of IPT therapy.…”
