Effect of HVOF spraying parameters on fracture, erosion and thermal properties of Fe alloy-based coating materials

Abstract: Fe-based coating (Fe50Mo5C15Si10Cr10Ti10) was deposited on 316L stainless steel substrate by high-velocity oxy-fuel spraying coating process. High-velocity oxy-fuel spraying process parameters such as oxygen flow rate and spray distance were varied to investigate their effect on mechanical, wear and thermal properties. The prepared coatings were characterized in terms of mechanical properties such as micro-hardness and fracture toughness, thermal properties and erosion wear properties. X-ray diffraction analys… Show more

“…Fracture toughness was measured by measuring the dimension of depth (crack length ‘a’ and width of specimen ‘c’) of indentation with the help of FESEM micrograph. The indentation was created by applying a load of p. The fracture toughness Kc of coating was measured using Equation (2) [2426]. The erosion wear assessment was carried out in Air jet erosion tester (Air Jet erosion tester, DUCOM Bangalore), India according to the ASTM G-76-13 test standard.…”

“…Erosion wear increased with the increase in impact speed but decreased with the increase in impact angle from 30° to 90°, Figure 7. The decrease in erosion wear rate with the increase in impingement angle may be attributed to the fact that at 30° impingement angle, micro‐ploughing is dominating factor [43]. Also, the post heat treatments of the coating material significantly improved the wear resistance.…”

“…These properties decrease with an increase in the spray distance. 8 The CNT-reinforced copper matrix results in enhanced micro-hardness compared to the hot-forged copper matrix. 9 In this process, CNTs enhanced the abrasion, corrosion, and wear resistance of coatings.…”
