A hydrolytic kinetic model predicting chains scissions of a polyurethane elastomer (TPU) containing an anti-hydrolysis agent (stabilization via carbodiimide) was developed. This model is based on four components: uncatalysed hydrolysis, acid-catalysed hydrolysis, carboxylic acid dissociation and competitive carbodiimide-based deactivation of acid. Protons were considered as the key catalyst responsible for the hydrolysis. Model parameters were determined by fitting experimental data measured on unstabilized and stabilized TPUs, aged in immersion from 40 to 90 C. Scission kinetics were predicted for immersion and 50% relative humidity conditions, from 10 to 100 C. Structure-failure property relationships were also investigated, between molar mass and elongation at break. A master curve was established for elongation at break with molar mass, including both TPUs at four ageing temperatures. By combining predictions for scission kinetics with the molar mass-elongation at break master curve and an embrittlement molar mass as the end-of-life criterion, non-Arrhenian lifetime predictions are proposed for all exposure conditions considered.

Thermoplastic polyamide elastomers (TPAEs) have emerged as important thermoplastic elastomer materials with significant potentials owing to their excellent low‐temperature flexibility, easy processability, lightweight, good thermal stability and mechanical properties, etc. Over the last few decades, TPAEs have rapidly developed into a large variety of kinds of TPAEs. Striking advancements have been achieved in this research field. Unfortunately, there is not yet a review to summarize the progress. The present paper summarizes the major advancements dealing with TPAEs, in which synthesis, structures/properties as well as applications are introduced in detail. Moreover, current challenges and main developmental directions dealing with TPAEs are also presented. This review may motivate more interest in TPAEs, further facilitating their all‐side research and more large‐scale applications.

The dawn of mass plastic production in the early 20th century has accelerated the penetration of microplastics into the environment, making them known to be an insidious threat to diverse ecosystems. The current scenario for microplastics is dire, as they pervade living organisms and disrupt vital functions while also affecting the environment by altering soil quality. They pose an inherent risk to human health, making their elimination a multifaceted challenge. Due to factors such as small size, low biodegradability, and ubiquity, microplastics are particularly challenging to detect, and methods for their elimination from terrestrial and marine environments are an ever‐evolving field of research. The detection of such microplastics has necessitated the use of various biotechnological techniques to monitor microplastic pollution. The control of microplastic pollution in natural ecosystems can be met by replacing mass‐produced single‐use plastics with viable bio‐based alternatives. The main objectives of this review are to discuss how microplastic pollution is currently monitored, assessed, and controlled using satellite‐generated imagery complemented with a range of biotechnological and bioremedial techniques. This review also traces the development of a range of bio‐based plastic alternatives that are observed to potentially replace single‐use plastics. Further discussion on the various challenges and prospects for the mitigation of microplastics will also be conducted, stressing the importance of future research.
