“…These results indicate that ICA can promote the biosynthesis of E 2 by stimulating aromatase expression in a concentration-dependent manner. This conclusion is supported by previous studies in human ovarian granulosa cells (KGN cells), human osteoblastic cells (UMR-106 cells), rat ovarian granulosa cells, and TGF-β1-treated rat Leyding cells that showed that ICA promotes E 2 biosynthesis by enhancing aromatase mRNA and protein expression in a concentration-dependent manner (Yang et al, 2013(Yang et al, , 2016Nie et al, 2018). In this study, to investigate the potential mechanism by which ICA regulates aromatase expression, we focused on proteins in the cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway because CYP19 expression in ovaries is mediated by the classical cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway (Gore-Langton and Dorrington, 1981;Guiguen et al, 2010).…”

“…It has been found to have both androgen-like and estrogen-like effects ( Zhang and Yang, 2006 , Wang et al., 2009 ). Some of the ingredients of TFE, such as hyperin and icariin, were confirmed to promote the secretion of E 2 and progesterone through the upregulation of CYP17 and CYP19 in the ovary granulosa cells of rats in vitro ( Nie et al., 2019 ). The results obtained in this study showed that TFE had the ability to improve the secretion of endogenous E 2 , which in turn promoted the development of the fallopian tube via ER receptors.…”

“…HR is a flavonoid compound [ 36 ], also known as quercetin-3-O-beta-D-galactoside [ 37 ], and it can improve the endocrine function of the ovary [ 38 ]. A previous study has reported that HR promotes the proliferation and secretion of estrogen and progesterone in rat ovarian granulosa cells, thereby improving ovarian endocrine function [ 39 ]. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms need to be comprehensively elucidated.…”

“…Estrogen is mainly produced in granulosa cells during follicular development and produces negative feedback on luteinizing hormone [ 44 ]. Progesterone is synthesized and secreted by follicles and corpus luteum components of mammalian ovary, which can affect the function of granulosa cells during follicular development before ovulation [ 39 ]. TSC1 is an important upstream negative regulator of mTORC1.…”
