Effect of Astragalus membranaceus in Ovalbumin-Induced Allergic Rhinitis Mouse Model

Abstract: Background Astragalus membranaceus (AM), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to treat allergic diseases, but the mechanism for treating allergic rhinitis (AR) remains unclear. Objective The purpose of this study was to look at the anti-inflammatory effect of AM on AR and the mechanism of anti-allergy. Methods The mouse model of AR was induced by ovalbumin. Allergic symptoms, number of eosinophils in nasal mucosa, and levels of inflammatory cells in nasal lavage fluid were analyzed. We explored the se… Show more

“…Intranasal 100 µg of OVA was administered five times a week between the days 21 and 41 (21) . In another study, an AR mouse model was used to investigate the therapeutic effect of Astragalus membranaceus plant on AR (22) . In this model, IP 75 µg OVA was given on days 0,7 and 14 (22) .…”

“…Astragalus membranaceus Schischkin water root extract was probably involved in reduction of the levels of inflammatory cells in nasal lavage fluid, number of eosinophils in the nasal mucosa, and IgE, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 levels in serum by increasing the level of CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ T cells and through inhibition of NF-κB [Bing et al 2019].…”

“…Exposure to environmental allergens activates the Th2 which were boosted the production of Th2 cytokines such as antigen‐specific (IgE), interleukin‐4 (IL‐4), and IL‐5 and finally causing the hyper‐responsiveness in nasal mucosa (Bui et al., 2020; Bui, Piao, Hyeon, Fan, Van Nguyen, et al., 2019). During the induction of allergic response, activates the Th1 and Th2 cells appear to be mutually antagonistic (Bing et al., 2019; Zhang et al., 2019). During the physiological conditions, the population of Th1 and Th2 exist in balance and cross‐regulate each other.…”
