Effect of Inhibitor on Adsorption Behavior and Mechanism of Micro-Zone Corrosion on Carbon Steel

Abstract: A new type of inhibitor is studied in this paper. Inhibition efficiency and adsorption behavior of an inhibitor film on the steel surface is tested via the electrochemical method and theoretical calculation to establish the adsorption model. Test results confirm that inhibition efficiency is improved with the addition of an inhibitor, and the inhibitor film is formed firmly by comparing the characteristic peaks of S and N. Moreover, the micro-zone corrosion progress of Fe in 3.5% invasive NaCl-simulated seawat… Show more

“…The negative value of indicates the spontaneous adsorption and stability of the adsorbed film onto the steel rebar surface. The calculated by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm indicates that the ammonium phosphate monobasic inhibitor follows the physisorption and chemisorption together [ 54 , 55 , 56 , 57 ] while the Freundlich result suggests the physisorption isotherm [ 58 ].…”

“…The first stage in the action mechanism of the inhibitor in the aggressive acid media is its adsorption on the metal surface [81]. The parameters implied in the adsorption of the organic inhibitors on the metal surface are: (1) the structure of the inhibitor which confers specific charges on the atoms and some type of interaction between metallic surface and organic substance; (2) the corrosive electrolyte (acid or basic); (3) nature of metal surface [82, 83]. The formation of donor–acceptor surface complexes between π-electrons of an inhibitor and the vacant d-orbital of metal was formulated in many inhibition studies [80, 84, 85].…”

“…Cement concrete and asphalt concrete are the two major materials in pavement engineering, so-called rigid pavement and flexible pavement. The micro-zone corrosion mechanism [36], cement mortar with super absorbent polymer [37], and exhaust-purifying cement [38] were discussed in detail. Polypropylene fiber was used in cement concrete and its performance was studied by Chen et al [39] by dynamic compressive behavior analysis.…”
