Effect of intra‐abdominal hypertension on plasma exogenous creatinine clearance in conscious and anesthetized dogs

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of intra‐abdominal pressure (IAP) on plasma exogenous creatinine clearance in both conscious and anesthetized dog models using a balloon technique to generate intra‐abdominal hypertension. Design Prospective, cross‐over, experimental study. Setting University‐based small animal research facility. Animals Six healthy male Beagle dogs. Interventions A balloon device comprising a Foley urinary catheter and latex balloon was placed in the intra‐abdominal cavity. Plasma exogenous cr… Show more

“…Every hour, respiratory rate, heart rate, arterial pressure and IAP was measured (Table 1). Intravesicular pressure was used to measure IAPs in this dog (8,15), IAP and abdominal perfusion pressure (APP), which can be calculated as mean arterial pressure minus IAP, and the results are summarized in Table 1. During the postoperative monitoring period, IAP was normal and within the reference range one hour after surgery (0-7.4 mmHg) (Fig.…”

“…A previous study has demonstrated the successful increase and maintenance of IAP by air insufflation using a balloon device without general anaesthesia in a conscious IAH dog model (Jang et al., 2018, 2019). This conscious IAH dog model may be helpful for predicting changes in IOP in conscious patients because anaesthetic agents, laparoscopic surgery and posture variation can affect IOP (Grosso et al., 2013; Lentschener et al., 1996; Mowafi et al., 2003).…”
