Importance of the work:The Siam tulip (Curcuma alismatifolia) is an economic crop with the potential for producing bioactive compound through plant tissue culture. Objectives: To investigate the effects of jasmonic acid, salicylic acid and two-dimensional nanomaterials (nanosheets) on the in vitro growth of C. alismatifolia cv. Maejo Impress and its phytochemical properties. Materials & Methods: Two types of elicitors were tested at three concentrations and they were combined with a nanosheet. The control group utilized a basal Murashige and Skoog medium. The experiment units were assigned following a completely randomized design. After 6 wk of culture, growth, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the Siam tulip cv. Maejo Impress were studied. Results: The addition of elicitors had no significant effect on the height of explants and new shoots, shoot multiplication and leaf colour. However, the Siam tulip cultured with 4 mg/L and 6 mg/L jasmonic acid (JA) had the highest (p < 0.05) total phenolic content and antioxidant activity compared to those cultured without elicitors. Main finding: The optimal type and concentrations of elicitors were 4-6 mg/L JA for improving the accumulation of bioactive compounds in the micropropagation of C. alismatifolia cv. Maejo Impress without inducing shoot necrosis or death.

This study conducted a comprehensive analysis of functional substances and explored their biological activities using colorimetric and chromatographic techniques to identify high-value materials from 14 species of forest plants native to Korea. Comparative analysis between plant species included calculating the total polyphenol and flavonoid contents and qualitative and quantitative analysis of the phytochemical compounds caffeic acid (1), p-coumaric acid (2), and quercetin (3) using HPLC, and antioxidant activity tests (DPPH and ABTS+) and menopausal symptom relief tests (E-screen assay) to investigate their biological activities. The results highlighted Cercidiphyllum japonicum (FR 4), Aruncus dioicus (FR 6), and Pseudocydonia sinensis (FR 8) as excellent forest plant resource materials among the 14 forest plant resources. Notably, FR 4 exhibited significant activity in the E-screen assay. On the basis of these findings, we propose the use of FR 4 as a valuable material. Further analysis identified the phytochemical compounds maltol (4), chlorogenic acid (5), ellagic acid (6), and quercitrin (7) in FR 4 and analyzed their biological activities. Compounds 2–6 found in FR 4 were confirmed to possess strong antioxidant activity, and an E-screen assay revealed an excellent cell proliferation rate for quercitrin (7). This suggests that quercitrin (7) in FR 4 may be a significant indicator of the alleviation of menopausal symptoms.

Padi Black Madras (Oryza sativa L.) merupakan padi hias yang selain biasa digunakan sebagai ornamen, juga dapat digunakan sebagai sumber pharmaceutical yang bermanfaat bagi kesehatan manusia. Namun saat ini belum banyak diketahui potensialnya menjadi sumber pharmaceutical seperti metabolit sekunder. Metabolit sekunder yang dihasilkan oleh padi black madras ini dapat diambil melalui kultur jaringan dengan cara elisitasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui respon kalus padi dan produksi metabolit sekunder pada padi Black Madras terhadap pemberian asam jasmonat, asam salisilat, dan kitosan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan pemberian elisitor memberikan respon pada kalus padi dan produksi metabolit sekunder padi black madras terhadap pemberian asam jasmonat, asam salisilat, dan kitosan. Varietas terbaik didapatkan pada varietas IR64 sebagai kontrol daripada Black madras dengan perlakuan dengan kandungan fenolik (0,1548 mg GAE/g) dan flavonoid (0,2830 mg QE/g) terbaik ada pada media dengan pemberian Asam Jasmonat 10ppm. Sedangkan pada antosianin dengan pemberian yang terbaik adalah Kitosan 50ppm (PC: 2,852 CV/g FW dan PP: 0,538 CV/ test tube). Varietas Black madras lebih cenderung dalam peningkatan biomassa dengan kandungan fenolik (0,1165 mg GAE/g) dan flavonoid (0,2107 mg QE/g) pada perlakuan kontrol meskipun dalam produksi antosianin cukup tinggi dengan Kitosan 50ppm (PC: 2,832 CV/g FW) dan Asam Salisilat 10ppm (PP: 0,440 CV/ test tube) lebih daripada perlakuan kontrol.
