Effect of kcl on cucl2/γ-al2o3 catalyst for oxychlorination of ethane

Abstract: Effect of KCl on the structure and the catalytic properties of CuCl 2 /γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst for ethane oxychlorination has been studied by means of solubility test, UV-vis spectroscopy, XRD, TPR, TEM and catalytic reaction. Addition of KCl decreases the interaction between active species CuCl 2 and γ-Al 2 O 3 and increases the catalytic properties by accelerating the Cu(II) → Cu(I) reduction step.

“…15,24 The reducible Cu species on CuO/CeO 2 IJA)-500 and CuO/CeO 2 IJN)-500 are CuO only, while the reduction of Cu 2 IJOH) 3 Cl species also contributes to the reduction peaks for CuO/CeO 2 IJC)-500. 57,58 In addition, for CuO/CeO 2 IJA)-500 and CuO/CeO 2 IJC)-500, high temperature peaks at 250 and 392 °C (peak δ), respectively, are required for satisfactory fitting of the profile. This may correspond to the reduction of Cu 2+ in the CeO 2 lattice, which is proposed to be the most difficult to reduce.…”

“…No significant CuCl 2 diffraction peaks were observed in all samples. This phenomenon indicates that the Cu species must be an amorphous phase or in the form of nanoclusters, which cannot be detected by XRD. , …”
