Effect of Kelussia odoratissima Mozaffarian on Lipid and Glucose Profile

Abstract: Background: Flavonoids are a group of polyphenolic compounds with antioxidant properties that help reduce cardiovascular risk factors. Kelussia odoratissima is a flavonoid-containing plant, the effect of which was analyzed on decreasing blood lipid levels in mice. Objectives: The present study was carried out with the aim of determining the anti-hyperlipidemia effects of this herb on mice. Materials and Methods:In this preclinical study, 70 Balb/c mice were divided to five 14-member groups and received normal … Show more

“…With economic development and lifestyle changes, dyslipidemia has become more common in all over the globe (Kafeshani, Mirhosseini, Momeni, Rabiei, & Rafieian‐Kopaei, ; Nelson, Rochelau, & Nicholls, ). Dyslipidemia can trigger the development of different chronic disorders including cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, Type 2 diabetes, and stroke (Hadi et al, ; Nelson et al, ; Rastegari, ; Shahreza, ). Furthermore, it increases mortality rate and subsequently brings a high cost to societies (Grundy, ).…”

“…[11] According to the research conducted on the pharmacological properties of this plant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, [13] sedative effect, [14] fibrinolytic effect, [6] activity to decrease the secretion of acid and pepsin, [15] antihyperlipidemic effect, [16] inhibitory effect on contractions of uterus and ileum, [17,18] and memory boosting effect [19] have been reported. It contains total phenolic, flavonoid, and flavonol contents with the values of 96.2%, 56.1%, and 32.9%, respectively, and phthalides and fatty acids, that its cancer prevention [16] and liver protection effect, [20] have been attributed to. Furthermore, due to phenolic compounds and flavonoids, this plant has free radical scavenging and antioxidant effects.…”
