Effect of Kinesio tape and Compression sleeves on delayed onset of muscle soreness: a single-blinded randomized controlled trial

Abstract: Background Both Kinesio Tape (KT) and Compression Sleeves (CS) can relieve Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) to a certain extent, but there is no study report on the difference in the effectiveness of the KT and CS whether the effect is better when used at the same time. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of KT and CS on the recovery of muscle soreness, isokinetic strength, and body fatigue after DOMS. Methods In this single-bl… Show more

“…Among the roles attributed to kinesiotape are to provide support to injured muscles and joints, boost muscle strength, improve muscle function, decrease muscle tension, and alleviate pain by enhancing the skin and blood, as well as the lymph flow [23,24]. Additionally, it can help to reduce abnormal muscle tension, facilitate relaxation, and promote functional activities while assisting in the restoration of fascia and muscle function [25]. However, the literature supporting such a view in plantar fasciitis is scarce [18]; moreover, the effects of both low-dye tape and kinesiotape on important clinical aspects such as mobility, durability, comfort, hygiene, sweating, and allergy to the material are still understudied, and they have not been comprehensively compared [17,[26][27][28].…”

“…In present times, orthopedic and rehabilitation physicians, as well as physiotherapists, have been using KT to both prevent and treat musculoskeletal injuries. [ 11 , 12 ] The therapeutic benefits of KT comprise augmenting proprioception, facilitating or suppressing muscle excitability, ameliorating muscle function, encouraging blood and lymphatic circulation, alleviating pain, and realigning subluxated joints. [ 13 15 ] However, the precise mechanism of action of KT remains unclear and may be associated with normalizing the affected fascia and muscles by reducing abnormal muscle tone.…”
