Effect of Li+-ion on enhancement of photoluminescence in Gd2O3:Eu3+ nanophosphors prepared by combustion technique

Abstract: a b s t r a c tGd 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ (4 mol%) nanophosphor co-doped with Li + ions have been synthesized by low-temperature solution combustion technique in a short time. Powder X-ray diffractometer (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-VIS and photoluminescence (PL) techniques have been employed to characterize the synthesized nanoparticles. It is found that the lattice of Gd 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ phosphor transforms from monoclinic to cubic as the Li + -ions are dop… Show more

“…Recently, rare earth and transition metal ions doped oxide hosts find wide range of applications including luminescent materials, catalysts, photonic applications, displays, thermoluminescence dosimetry [1][2][3][4], etc. Oxide host phosphors were commonly synthesized by numerous methods namely sol-gel, hydrothermal, co-precipitation, combustion, solid-state method [5][6][7][8], etc.…”

“…Among the tri-color phosphors, red phosphors have more significant effect on the luminous flux than green and blue. Eu 3+ -doped materials show intense 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 emission in the red spectral region, which have been diffusely adopted as red emitting phosphors [6]. Especially, the Eu 3+ doped barium tungstate (BaWO 4 ) compounds may be a potential phosphor due to its excellent physical and chemical properties [7].…”

“…Thus, the E g values have been evaluated by extrapolating the linear portion of the curve or tail [(αhν) 1/n = 0] in the UV-Vis absorbance spectra. A plausible explanation for the variation observed in the E g values can be related to the degree of structural order-disorder in the lattice which is able to change the intermediate energy level distribution within the bandgap (Dhananjaya et al 2011a).…”
