Effect of Low Temperature Co2 Injection in High Temperature Oil Reservoirs Using Slimtube Experiment

Abstract: A set of slimtube experiments is designed and presented to study the effect of cold temperature CO2 on recovery factor in reservoirs with high temperature. The comparison of the results indicates the positive effect of temperature on recovery trend in early stage as well as ultimate recovery in different injection pressures. The approach is based on a long slimtube to show the effect of temperature on the recovery. The study considers different temperatures and pressures of injection and reservoir allowing bot… Show more

“…It easily enters the miscible state and creates a massive reduction in viscosity of the gas-penetrated region. 224 The viscosity reduction could reach up to 70%. 3 CO 2 can reach the miscibility level at the pressure and temperature of most oil reservoirs; in other words, gas solubility plays a critical role in the CO 2 EOR process.…”

“…To further extend their production life, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is vital. EOR as a tertiary recovery mechanism has been proven to increase the recovery factor, therefore, allowing companies to meet the growing energy demand [2][3][4].…”

“…Within the domain of EOR lies a variety of methods that could be employed to boost and improve oil recovery from a maturing reservoir. In general, there are four different types of EOR methods: i) Thermal, ii) Gas, iii) Chemical and iv) Microbial [3]. Each comes with its respective purposes for different types of reservoirs with different operating conditions.…”
