Effect of magnetic and nonmagnetic nano metal oxides doping on the critical temperature of a YBCO superconductor

Abstract: Bulk superconductor samples of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ (YBCO) doped with nano metal oxides of Mn 3 O 4 , Co 3 O 4 , Cr 2 O 3 , CuO and SnO 2 respectively with 0.2 wt% are synthesized by a solid-state reaction route. The structural characterization of all samples has been carried out by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The XRD patterns indicate that the magnetic doping of nano metal oxides Mn O , Co O , Cr O 3 4 3 4 2 3( ) gives a hig… Show more

“…Rietveld refinement showed that the addition of SnO 2 increases the percentage of Y-123 phase in the sample, hence reducing the percentage of Y-211 phase. Meanwhile, the insignificant changes in the lattice parameters a , b and c further support that there was no substitution of Sn in the sample, which is in good agreement with the results reported in [23]. Orthorhombicity of the Y-123 phase was calculated using the lattice parameter differences (ab)/(a+b) and is tabulated in Table 1 [15].…”

“…YBCO powder is prepared by the solid-state reaction formulation by mixing stoichiometric amounts of Y 2 O 3 , BaCO 3 , and CuO followed by grinding, calcinations, and sintering as previously described in details of our previous work (Salama et al 2015). A series of polycrystalline composite samples of YBCO+ x where x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 wt.% of each metal oxide (Mn 3 O 4 , Co 3 O 4 , and Cr 2 O 3 ) were mixed separately and pressed into pellets.…”

“…The pellets were sintered according to the same curve of heat treatment as in reference [18]. XRD was done for phase conformation and structural analysis using x-ray diffractograms provided with computer controlled formally made by the PHILIPS®MPDX´PERT x-ray diffratometer equipped with Cu radiation CuKα (λ=1.540 56 Å).…”
