Effect of medicaments used in endodontic regeneration technique on push-out bond strength of MTA and Biodentine

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the intracanal medicaments used in regenerative endodontic treatment on push-out bond strength (PBS) of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine (BD). The root canals of 102 maxillary incisors were enlarged to simulate immature roots and were randomly divided into three groups (n D 34): a control group (no intracanal medicament) and two test groups, subjected to calcium hydroxide (CH) or triple antibiotic paste (TAP) medication for two weeks. “…The median resistance to displacement corresponded to 14.79 MPa, with a maximum value of 31.61 MPa and a minimum value of 2.97 MPa. This result is in accordance with those of several published studies, which presented values ranging from 2.16–56.7 MPa, thus highlighting the superior performance of Biodentine cement over other bioceramic formulations [ 24 33 34 35 ]. This performance can be explained by the biomineralization capability of this material.…”

“…For BA, none of the ICMs differed from the control, and only CH showed better bond strength than DAP. However, variable results have been reported in the endodontic literature on the effects of the ICMs used in REPs on the retention of CSCs [ 17 18 19 20 ]. Our findings are in accordance with 1 study [ 20 ], partly in agreement with another [ 17 ], and in disagreement with others [ 18 19 ].…”

Our findings are in accordance with 1 study [ 20 ], partly in agreement with another [ 17 ], and in disagreement with others [ 18 19 ]. Variations among studies may primarily be due to variations in experimental design, including the CSC types and durations of setting, as well as the ICM form, concentration, and method of removal [ 39 40 ] and the differential effects of ICMs on dentin, with which they were usually in contact for 3 weeks, as is the case for REPs.…”
