Effect of Meltable Triazine-DOPO Additive on Rheological, Mechanical, and Flammability Properties of PA6

Abstract: Through a straightforward approach, a new meltable, halogen-free, nitrogen-phosphorus-based flame retardant (FR), 6-(2-(4,6-diamino-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)ethyl) dibenzo [c,e][1,2]oxaphosphinine 6-oxide (DTE-DOPO) was synthesized and incorporated in polyamide 6 (PA6).It was proved that a very low phosphorus content of 1.46 wt % for DTE-DOPO additive improved the flame retardancy of PA6, leading to a non-flammable material. The performance of the new additive was compared to that of the commercially-available Exoli… Show more

“…When these materials were incorporated into epoxy at a level of 5 wt%, blends that displayed a V‐0 rating were obtained . A common characteristic of highly effective flame retardants is that they all contain nitrogen rich structural units as gas resources . Considering that the aminopyrazine molecule has high nitrogen content and readily decomposes, it might serve as a useful flame retardant component.…”

“…22 A common characteristic of highly effective flame retardants is that they all contain nitrogen rich structural units as gas resources. 23,24 Considering that the aminopyrazine molecule has high nitrogen content and readily decomposes, it might serve as a useful flame retardant component. Therefore, it has been used to prepare a compound (DTPA) with good flame-retarding properties.…”

“…on PA6, and it can no longer meet the actual demand by virtue of inherent materials properties. Therefore, PA6 modification research is getting more and more attention by researchers [3][4][5]. Especially, of great practical significance is to improve the flame retardant properties of PA6 in order to improve the safety factors of PA6.…”

“…Phosphorus‐containing compound is often used as an acid source in IFR whose purpose is to form a compact and impermeable char layer essentially composed of phosphate and its analogs during combustion . Nitrogen‐containing compound serves as a blowing agent in IFR system that produces abundant incombustible gases when it degrades . The gases from the decomposition of nitrogen‐containing compound make the char layer to be intumescent .…”
