Effect of metal ions on self reinforcement of metal/adhesive interphase by γ‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane

Abstract

When copper/epoxy joints are pretreated with 1 wt.-% solution of y-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (y-APS) in ethanol, the coordination between the copper ions and the amino groups of y-APS and 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane could bring about self-reinforcement of the metaVadhesive interphase when the joints were exposed in 3% aqueous NaCl solutions for 160 d. This is also confirmed with a model experiment by pretreating the aluminium substrates with y-APS solution containing moderate amounts of copper salts and subsequent formation of the aluminiumlepoxy joints. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG:Bei Kupfer-Epoxy-Verbunden, die mit einer 1 proz. alkoholischen Losung von y-Aminopropyltriethoxysilan (y-APS) vorbehandelt wurden, kann die Koordination von Kupferionen und Aminogruppen aus y-APS und 4,4'-Diaminodiphenylmethan (DDM) zur Eigenverstarkung der Metall-Kleber-Grenzschicht fiihren, wenn die Verbunde 160 Tage einer 3 proz. waJ3rigen Kochsalzlosung ausgesetzt wurden. Dies wurde ebenfalls durch ein Modellexperiment bestatigt, bei dem Aluminiumsubstrate mit einer in maBigen Konzentrationen kupfersalzhaltigen y-APS-Losung vorbehandelt und anschlieljend Aluminium-Epoxy-Verbunde hergestellt wurden.
