Effect of moisture content on engineering characteristics of apricot (Prunus armeniacaL.) kernel

Abstract: Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) kernels, the innermost part of the economical stone fruit, are utilized for edible purposes, extraction of oil, and many pharmaceutical products.Biological materials are complex in structure and get affected by their moisture content. This study investigates the effect of different moisture content from 5.66% to 26.47% wet basis apricot kernels on its various engineering characteristics and develops their correlations. The engineering characteristics such as linear dimension lengt… Show more

“…Mechanical damage during the postharvest process of the apricot leads to increased metabolic activity which turn resulted a substantial part of fruit loss or wasted. Moreover, storage methods and different packaging in small domestic markets affect the shelf life of sensitive agricultural products such as fresh apricot (Mozaffari et al, 2022;Pawar et al, 2023). Considering the susceptible characteristics of the fresh apricot, it was estimated that $30%-40% losses has been occurred during the post-harvest process (Hua et al, 2022).…”
