Effect of mosapride on ruminal motility in cattle

Abstract: This study aimed to assess the effects of mosapride at various dosages on ruminal motility in cattle and the absorption kinetics of mosapride in cattle. Mosapride was rapidly absorbed after oral administration in cattle. Oral administration at dosages of 1, 3, and 10 mg/kg resulted in a dose-dependent increase in the detection time. At the 1 mg/kg dose, the motility index of rumen in cattle significantly increased at 60, 70, and 80 min (134 ± 20, 168 ± 37, 173 ± 45%, respectively), compared with that of the co… Show more

“…Ruminal motility in the cattle was measured by a strain gauge force transducers [4]. The size of the force transducer was 18 × 35 mm, and the force transducer contained the strain gauge (Foil Strain Gauge; NEC San-ei Instruments, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan).…”

“…However, it is unknown whether a bolus sensor can carry out continuous long-term measurements of reticuloruminal motility in cattle. Ruminal motility in cattle can be assessed physiologically using devices such as a strain gauge force transducer or by ultrasonography [4,7].…”

“…Measuring methods recently used in ruminants, such as force transducer method [ 11 , 12 ], restrained electromyography [ 4 ], or ultrasonographic examination [ 7 , 8 ] required an animal restriction. On the other hand, an application of accelerometers in bolus wireless sensors [ 9 , 10 ] does not allow long-term registration. Therefore, since the myoelectric activity of smooth muscle of the reticulo-rumen reflects its contractile activity [ 1 , 2 , 3 ], telemetry EMG recording appears to be currently the only method that allows measures of long-term gastrointestinal motility on the unrestrained animal.…”

“…The forestomach motility in ruminants can be assessed physiologically using direct and indirect methods. Indirect methods, such as ultrasonography [ 7 , 8 ] and bolus wireless sensors with an accelerometer [ 9 , 10 ], have some limitations. Bolus sensors have numerous artifacts whereas ultrasonography approaches do not provide easy access to all components.…”
