Effect of nano yttria-stabilized zirconia on properties of Ni-20Cr composite coatings

Abstract: In the present work, 5 wt.% and 10 wt.% yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) nanoparticles were reinforced in Ni-20Cr powder and deposited on boiler tube steel using a high-velocity oxy-fuel spraying process. The effect of YSZ reinforcement on microhardness, surface roughness and porosity was investigated. The hardness was the highest for nanocomposite coating reinforced with 10 wt.% YSZ and hardness was found to increase with a decrease in porosity. The coating microstructure and elements were characterized using… Show more

“…Among the techniques, thermal spray techniques have shown the successful results in depositing uniform and dense protective layer (Mahesh and Prakash, 2008). Thermal spray coating processes, which are widely used in the manufacture of thermal barrier coating systems, are a flexible and relatively simple method of producing coatings that have the potential to provide long-term economic life and high efficiency by significantly improving the physical, mechanical and usability properties of the components to which they are applied (Zou et al , 2016; Muthu et al , 2019; Parkash and Sidhu, 2003; Singh et al , 2017; Patarini et al , 1979; Puri et al , 2004; Singh et al , 2022).…”

“…Abradable coatings are essentially sealing materials and are deposited by thermal spray techniques [7]. In the research work [8], 5 and 10 wt.% yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) nanoparticles were reinforced in Ni-20Cr powder and deposited on boiler tube steel using a high-velocity oxy-fuel spraying process. Colmonoy-6+WC powders were deposited with the help of the laser cladding method on the bare SS304 and SS410 steel surfaces by the authors [9].…”
