Effect of Nd3 + concentration on the physical and absorption properties of sodium-lead-borate glasses

Abstract: The effect of increasing the rare earth ion concentration on the physical and spectroscopic properties of Nd 3+ doped sodium-lead-borate glasses have been studied for the compositions (10-x) Na 2 O-30PbO-60B 2 O 3 -xNd 2 O 3 , where x = 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75 and 2.00 mol %. Optical band gaps, cut-off wavelengths and various spectroscopic parameters (E 1 , E 2 , E 3 , F 2 , F 4 , F 6 and ξ 4 f ) have been determined from the room temperature absorption spectra. Judd-Ofelt theory has been employed to determine … Show more

“…The Er-ion concentration (N) is of great interest since it affects different properties of the host material. The number of ions per cubic centimeter was calculated according to the formula [24,25] N ion=cm where N A is Avogadro's number, and x is the mol fraction of rare earth oxide. The calculated values are listed in Table 1, and shown in Fig.…”

“…They observed the figure of merit to be maximized for 1.5 mol% Nd 3+ doped Y 2 O 3 ceramics. It is, therefore, worthwhile to investigate the spectroscopic parameters for 1.5 mol% Nd 3+ doped Y 2 O 3 ceramic as these parameters are found to be strongly dependent on dopant ion concentration [20]. This analysis will further elaborate the efficacy of this composition as laser host.…”
