Effect of nitrogen nutrition on growth and nitrate accumulation in lettuce (Lactuca sativaL.), under various conditions of radiation and temperature

Abstract: A better understanding of the effect of environmental factors on growth and nitrate accumulation in plants is necessary to develop cultivation practices, and in particular for providing lettuces with a low nitrate content. This study was conducted to analyse the effect of nitrogen supply on the interception and conversion of the PAR in dry matter, and on the nitrate and water accumulations in fresh tissues of the lettuce, for various conditions of temperature and radiation. The growth, and water and nitrate co… Show more

“…Also D a p o i g n y at al. [14] showed that nitrate content was positively correlated with water content in lettuce leaves. The results presented by the cited authors as well as those included in this work indicate the significant role of the genetic factor (plant species, cultivar) affecting the discussed relationship.…”

“…La intensidad luminosa se ha señalado como el principal factor ambiental interviene en la asimilación de nitratos puesto que además de influir en la actividad de la enzima nitrato reductasa, afecta al contenido de carbohidratos acumulados en las vacuolas (Dapoigny et al, 2000).…”
