“…As we dug deeper, though, we found that our data mirrored the results of similar studies involving the foot and ankle region. In a case series of 36 patients evaluating the effect of obesity on the arthroscopic findings and the functional outcome after arthroscopic treatment of anterolateral impingement syndrome of the ankle, Mardani-Kivi et al 10 showed that the presence of obesity had no effect on the functional outcome scores at 1-year follow-up and that, regardless of weight, arthroscopic treatment for impingement was equally effective. Strauss et al 18 found no difference in time to union, incidence of complications, or level of function after operatively treated ankle fractures in a cohort of obese (99 patients with BMI of more than 30) and nonobese patients (180 patients with BMI less than 30).…”
