Effect of obliquity of incident light on the performance of silicon solar cells

Abstract: The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of angle of incident light on the performance of silicon solar cell. In this regard, numerical calculations have been performed to obtain the reflectance for double layer antireflection coating (DLARC) of Si 3 N 4 at various angles of incidence (i.e. ) using transfer matrix method. Reflectances obtained, are found to increases with increase in angle of incidence. Calculated reflectances have been furth… Show more

“…In this calculation, we again used the transfer matrix method and the total transfer matrix of multilayers was calculated as the product of the transfer matrix of each layer in the order of light propagation (Centurioni, 2005). The reflectance is the average of the s-polarization and p-polarization components since for oblique incidence, the values of s-polarization and p-polarization are different (Sharma, 2019). The results are shown in…”

“…The main challenge regarding the performance of thin-film photovoltaic cell structure is the sunshine reflection losses, for instance, with no treatment materials, around 30% of the light illuminated at the Si surface can be lost due to the reflection at the interface between air and Si [78]. During the illumination of sunlight to the surface thin-film cell, some of the light is converted into energy, others will be transmitted, whereas some parts reflect [79]. The loss due to reflectance can be reduced by using techniques, such as coating with anti-reflection and light trapping materials [80].…”

“…In the present paper, the short-circuit current has been changed to 11% for SSC and 10% for NISC in the range of 0-60 degrees. However, when Sharma modelled a siliconbased solar cell using PC1D software, the short-circuit current was changed to 1.7% (Sharma 2019). This is because Sharma considered the frontal surface of the simple solar cell to be textured.…”
