Effect of Portarenal Transposition upon Ammonia Clearance in Dogs

Abstract: The rate of clearance of intravenously administered ammonia, as well as tolerance to protein-rich diet, were compared in normal dogs, those with Eck fistula and those with portarenal transposition. Dogs with portarenal transposition handled protein diet and cleared an ammonia load much better than those with Eck fistula and almost as well as normal dogs.
