Effect of post-space irrigation with acid solutions on bond strength and dentin penetrability using a self-adhesive cementation system

Abstract: Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of surface treatments with 1% peracetic acid (PA), solution containing 17% EDTA (SmearClear, Kerr Endodontics), solution containing a combination of 17% EDTA with 2% chlorhexidine (QMix, Dentsply Sirona) on the post-space root dentin compared to 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) on bond strength and resin tags length in dentin. Material and Methods Forty human-canine roots were endodontically treated and the po… Show more

“…The dye rhodamine B (LabSynth) at 0.1% (% mass) was incorporated into the cementation systems of all specimens 15 , 16 , 17 to evaluate the tag formation in the post-space dentin. All clinical procedures were performed by only one properly trained operator.…”

“…The force values ( F ) required for displacement of the set were obtained in Newton (N) and later converted to bond strength values in megapascals (MPa) using the formula: MPa = F /AD, where AD corresponds to the adhesion area. The adhesion area was calculated using the following formula 7 :AD=πR+rg, where R is the cervical radius of the root canal in mm, r is the apical radius of the root canal in mm, and g is the geratrix of the inverted cone in mm. The cervical and apical diameters of the root canals were individually measured using a stereomicroscope with 20× magnification (Leica Microsystems, Wetzlar, Germany).…”
